... died exactly one month after taking office, making him the shortest–serving US president (even to this day). The cause of his death was diagnosed at the time as pneumonia, believed to have been directly caused by the bad weather at his inauguration ceremony; but medical analysis in 2014 attributed it to enteric fever (which is more or less synonymous with typhoid).
